Eric Deharo is a parasitologist and pharmacist at the IRD; he has participated in the development of laboratory models for the detection of bioactive compounds, and diagnostic tools for tropical parasitosis. During his career, Eric has worked in Bolivia, French Guiana, Peru and Laos, and has gained in-depth knowledge of working in Southern health contexts. As an expert for international entities he has participated in many scientific committees to define scientific strategies in health programmes. He has published more than 100 articles in international journals. He has received recognition for his scientific work in the Global South, culminating in 2002 and 2013 with the awards of the Altran Foundation and the IRD Innovation-South prizes, respectively. Recently, Eric has been involved in research into the unusual epidemiological-clinical pattern of hepatocellular carcinoma in Peru.
